SLIM: Voting in Slim’s by-elections today caused some commotion after several people showed up in shorts and were not allowed to enter the voting center.

This took place at the SK Aminuddin Baki polling station, and several people were seen tearing their voter information card given by the Election Commission (EC) out of anger.

“We had voted nine times before this and we were never prevented from voting. This time, we are not allowed in because we are wearing shorts, but we have worn shorts before this and were allowed in.

“If so, I don’t want to vote,” said an old man, who only wanted to be known as Yong, as he left the center.

Another individual, who wished to remain anonymous, also expressed disappointment at not being able to vote, also by wearing shorts.

“I wanted to go to work, so I came early to vote. But now they don’t let me in, ”said the voter, who had been queuing since 7 am.

A party agent expressed disappointment at the officials’ decision to prevent these voters from entering the center, claiming that nearly 10 voters had left the center after they were turned away.

Meanwhile, various party agents went looking for these voters and tried to persuade them to return to their centers to vote.

An EC official told reporters that there was a misunderstanding and that his officers had tried to rectify the matter.

There are 23,094 registered voters in the state constituency. The by-election sees a three-way fight between Mohd Zaidi Aziz of Barisan Nasional (BN) and independent candidates Amir Khusyairi Mohamad Tanusi and Santhara Sekaran Subramaniam.
