SHANGHAI (Xinhua): Shanghai has stepped up measures to deal with bad weather caused by Typhoon Maysak, the ninth of this year, the municipal flood control and drought relief headquarters said on Tuesday (September 1).
Typhoon Maysak will travel northeast over the East China Sea on Tuesday night and is expected to cross the same latitude as Shanghai around noon Wednesday, with a closer distance of about 400 km. The metropolis will suffer gales and storms caused by the typhoon.
The municipal marine forecast and monitoring center issued storm and wave alerts, and the Shanghai Meteorological Observatory issued a gale warning.
Flood control departments at all levels and relevant city units have been instructed to take precautions and improve emergency measures.
Security controls have been intensified in coastal areas, as well as in streets, residential communities, construction sites, shacks, low-lying areas and underground places.
