Shafie: Warisan To Present A Mix Of Young And Experienced Candidates In Sabah Polls

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah will see a mix of younger and older candidates in upcoming polls.

The party’s chairman, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, said that more than 50% of his candidates in the last general election were young.

“So even if we add a few more, of course the numbers will still be high,” he said after a handover of land grants and the sport complex trade in Kota Marudu on Sunday (September 6).

He said the party must also include senior and experienced leaders so that there is a balance in the system.

At the beginning of the event, Shafie said that having a concept of supremacy is not healthy and could break a nation.

He said that although the Bumiputras have their own special rights in this country where Islam is the official religion, there should be no sense of supremacy in anyone, regardless of their race, religion and who they are.

Shafie said that in a multiracial country like Malaysia, more so in Sabah, where people of so many different races and religions, unity is of the utmost importance and no one should play on racial sentiments just to gain political mileage.

“We don’t label anyone based on their race, religion or skin color and we don’t play the racial card in politics. How do we hope to develop if we are united? Where do we go if we play in the race? ”He asked.

He said that this concept also applies to a party or a coalition where everyone has their ideologies and thoughts.

“We may be wearing the same shirt, but what good is it if we are fighting within ourselves just because we weren’t chosen as candidates for the next election,” asked Shafie.

“What good is becoming a candidate if the coalition ultimately loses,” he added.
