KOTA KINABALU: Anyone coming from states with active Covid-19 clusters will not be able to enter Sabah, says Provisional Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

He said airport authorities need to make sure thermal sensors are in place and working, while hand sanitizers are also provided.

He said these were part of the measures to prevent the virus from spreading in Sabah.

“We are monitoring Covid-19 trends and cases every day, like the one in Lahad Datu jail, we are keeping a close eye on it,” he said.

Shafie said they were lucky that Sabah’s Covid-19 situation wasn’t that bad so far.

“For the campaigns and related programs leading up to the upcoming state elections, make sure the SOPs are strictly adhered to,” he said.

He advised against holding meetings in large numbers, especially those that were difficult to control and where standard operating procedures were difficult to implement.

Shafie also instructed all officials involved in the upcoming elections to be equipped with masks, hand sanitizers and to maintain physical distance at all times until the end of the vote count.

He said the state government had provided 10 million masks and hand sanitizers for use by election and district officials during this election period.

On September 1, the Ministry of Health (MoH) discovered a new group on the Lahad Datu border with seven confirmed cases.

Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that the new group was detected after 50 new detainees at Lahad Datu police headquarters were screened for the presence of Covid-19 on the 28th. of August.
