KOTA KINABALU: The Chairman of the Sabah Heritage Party, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (Photo) apologized to all members of the security forces, as well as their families, after one of the party’s candidates, Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi, made comments that were said to disparage security personnel during Tanduo’s intrusion into the state in 2013.

“As Warisan Chairman and (Acting) Chief Minister, I want to apologize to all members of the security forces, their families and all Malaysians for the statement of one of the party members,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (22 of September). .

Silam’s candidate’s spontaneous comments were misinterpreted and were not intended to belittle the security forces who sacrificed their lives to defend the country and the people, Shafie said.

“As a former deputy defense minister, I am fully aware of the sacrifices made by our security forces to defend the nation and many of which must be stationed in remote and isolated outposts with minimal amenities,” he added.

“Each of our security forces personnel located in those areas is willing not only to sacrifice their lives to keep Malaysia safe, but they must also be away from their families during their deployment to these remote outposts. ”, He added.

Shafie also said that as Chief Minister, he understood and appreciated the role of security forces as a vanguard helping to control the spread of the invisible enemy known as Covid-19.

“We appreciate your sacrifices, and the state government set aside RM10,000 to be shared among everyone on the front line, including RM1,000 for the police and another RM1,000 for the military.

“Sabah was the only state in the country that provided such additional funds for security forces during Covid-19,” he added.

“The amount is not much compared to the risk and sacrifices of the security forces, but it clearly shows that the Sabah government appreciated their contribution, even though security was under the federal government,” he added.

Segama’s candidate Mohamaddin apologized after a 90-second video clip showed him disparaging Tanduo’s intrusion in 2013 as just a show “while he was on his election campaign at Segama.

The Lahad Datu MP, who is participating in an eight-way brawl, said the 2013 shooting with Sulu militants was “just a show” to win votes and help Barisan Nasional win the 13th General Election.

Mohamaddin said the video clip was taken out of context and was broadcast by people who wanted to see Warisan lose the election.

He said his words were not intended to offend the security forces, but to highlight Barisan’s failure to adequately secure Sabah’s borders.

“It was never my intention to trivialize or dishonor our security forces who fought valiantly to protect our land from invaders,” he said Monday.
