PETALING JAYA: The Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant has resumed operations after samples analyzed at its point of entry registered 0 TON (Threshold Odor Number) three times in a row, but it will be 12 hours before the supply of water can be distributed to users, says Air Selangor. His head of corporate communications, Elina Baseri, said this was because the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant had just started pumping raw water for cleaning works on raw water pipes and water treatment tanks.

“The effort to treat the raw water and stabilize the water treatment plant systems will take 12 hours before the water supply can be distributed to users.

“The water supply to be distributed will go through a water quality test and must meet the standards of the Ministry of Health.

“Air Selangor will report on the water supply restoration schedule in stages, according to the areas receiving water from the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant after the stabilization process of the water treatment plant can be fully implement, “it said in a statement Tuesday. (October 6).

However, the Bukit Tampoi water treatment plant has not yet resumed operations, as samples analyzed at its point of entry registered 2 TON at 6 am Tuesday, Elina said.

He added that Air Selangor has mobilized 92 water tankers to critical facilities, schools and housing areas that have been affected.

“There are 22 static tanker trucks, 10 stations, nine local service centers and 13 public pipelines for users that have been affected,” he said.

The Sungai Semenyih and Bukit Tampoi water treatment plants were closed on Sunday (October 4) after odor contamination beyond permitted thresholds was detected.

Environment and Water Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the source of contamination is believed to come from the Nilai industrial estate in Negri Sembilan.
