Seven witnesses to the helicopter crash give statements to the police

Two GC4A light helicopters collided in midair yesterday, causing one to crash, killing the pilot and passenger.

KUALA LUMPUR: The police recorded statements from seven witnesses to facilitate investigations into the helicopter accident that resulted in the deaths of two people in Taman Melawati, Ampang, near here yesterday.

Ampang Jaya Police Chief Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the police had also identified 20 other witnesses who would be called soon to record their statements.

“Those with information related to the incident are urged to report to the Ampang Jaya District Police Headquarters to assist in the investigation. Additional investigations continue, ”he said in a statement here today.

Two men were killed after two helicopters collided in midair around noon yesterday, causing one to crash and the other to make an emergency landing. The dead were the pilot of the crashed helicopter, retired navy commander Mohamed Sabri Baharom, 56, and his passenger, businessman Mohd Irfan Fikri Mohamed Rawi, 41.

Former Executive Director of the Malaysian Airline System, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, 66, and his passenger, Tan Chai Eian, 51, were slightly injured.

An autopsy was performed on the two victims today and the remains of the deceased were handed over to their families for the funeral, police said.

Mohamad Farouk urged the public not to post videos or photos of the accident on social media to avoid speculation and unwanted comments that could affect investigations.
