Seven devotees fined RM1,000 each for violating conditional MCO in Butterworth

BUTTERWORTH: Seven devotees, including two women, were slapped with a fine of RM 1,000 each, for violating the conditional motion control (MCO) order at a temple in Mak Mandin here on Saturday (November 14).

North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said people in their 40s were found not to practice physical distancing while celebrating the temple anniversary.

“During the inspection, it was found that they were all not following standard operating procedure (SOP),” it said in a statement on Sunday (November 15).

ACP Noorzainy said the seven were among 37 people who were fined during an operation to ensure compliance with SOPs in the district.

He said that in addition to the temple in Mak Mandin, the other individuals were grouped in various places in the district.

ACP Noorzainy said that in a Butterworth public market, five people between the ages of 17 and 71, including a woman, were aggravated by not following standard operating procedures, such as registering their names and recording their temperature before entering the market around 9 am

“They were fined on the spot after checks showed they were not complying with the SOP,” he said.

He said 19 people between the ages of 30 and 40, including two women, were fined at a café in Butterworth that operated beyond its operating hours during the conditional MCO.

ACP Noorzainy also said that two men aged 27 and 45 were also fined for the same violation.

They added more checks at a food stand in Sungai Dua and they also found that four men violated SOPs and were fined 1,000 RM each.

“The owner of the stall was fine for operating beyond hours of operation, while his clients were fined for not registering their temperature, their name and not practicing physical distancing,” he said.

ACP Noorzainy added that all of them were fined in accordance with Rule 10 (8) of the Regulation for the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) 2020.

He advised the public to strictly adhere to the SOP to avoid being fined, as well as to help the government flatten the Covid-19 curve.
