KUALA LUMPUR: Seremban Prison and its staff units will be under an Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) tomorrow, Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.
This comes after the Ministry of Health registered 25 positive cases of Covid-19 inside the prison.
“Based on risk assessments and advice from the Ministry of Health, today’s meeting agreed to impose an EMCO on Seremban Prison and Seremban Prison compound, Negeri Sembilan, for 14 days from November 24 to November 7. December”.
Ismail said that EMCO will affect some 2,080 people in the prison staff quarters.
He also announced that the EMCO in Taman Mesra, Sandakan, Sabah, as well as Hentian Square in Kajang, Selangor, will end tomorrow as scheduled.
The EMCO in Medan 88, Salak Tinggi, Sepang, Selangor, will also end on November 25 as scheduled.
He said the decision was made after the Health Ministry conducted risk assessments and found a decrease in the number of cases in the three locations.
However, they will still be under the conditional MCO rules for Sabah and Selangor.
Meanwhile, the EMCO in Kampung Sabah Baru, Lahad Datu, Sabah, will extend another 14 days until December 7 for the Ministry of Health to conduct further screening and contain the spread of the virus.
Ismail added that the EMCO in Putra Point, Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, will also run until November 30, while awaiting the test results of the second assessment conducted today.
On the daily enforcement against those who violated the MCO, Ismail said that 807 people were arrested yesterday by the police, of which 747 received compound fines and 52 in pretrial detention.
Most of them were penalized for participating in activities at entertainment centers, not wearing masks, traveling between districts and interstate in CMCO areas, and not observing physical distancing.
Authorities also detained 85 undocumented immigrants and three vehicles yesterday as part of the ongoing Ops Benteng.
It added that 942 people returned to Malaysia yesterday from various countries, all of which are currently in mandatory quarantine.
Ismail also said that the National Security Council will discuss the postponement of entertainment programs with the communications and multimedia ministry.
This comes after a person participated in a singing competition at a private television station and tested positive for Covid-19.
