PETALING JAYA: The Seremban and Port Dickson districts in Negeri Sembilan have been placed under a movement control order (MCO) starting tomorrow, Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced.
In a statement today, he said that this follows the advice and risk analysis of the Ministry of Health due to an increase in Covid-19 cases in these two districts.
The MCO will last for 14 days from 12:01 am tomorrow until February 1.
Ismail noted that there was a dramatic increase in cases in Seremban in the past 14 days, from 777 to 876 cases.
“Besides that, many sub-districts in Seremban were also red zones. Seven of the nine sub-districts are red zones and the number of cases reported in the seven sub-districts is 56 to 283 ”.
Similarly, in Port Dickson, Ismail said that the Health Ministry had also confirmed an increase in positive Covid-19 cases in the past two weeks.
In a related matter, Ismail said that the upgraded MCO in Kampung Timbang Dayang, Kota Belud, Sabah will finish today as scheduled.
The Ministry of Health has carried out 516 screening tests with a total of 53 positive cases registered. He said the ministry has confirmed that the remaining active cases were under control.
Meanwhile, Ismail said police arrested 785 people yesterday for MCO-related crimes. A total of 765 compounds were issued, 19 were forwarded and one received the bond.
Among the offenses are facilities that open beyond the allowed opening / opening hours despite not being allowed to operate (38), disobey physical distancing rules (165), not wearing face masks (250), not providing materials for tracking or recording contacts (137), crossing state or district borders without permission (31) and others (164).
A total of 2,588 compliance work teams were deployed to carry out controls in supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks, among others.
Ismail also said that the police captured 33 illegal immigrants and seized four vehicles under Op Benteng. The app set up 428 barricades to monitor yesterday.
