KUALA LUMPUR: A senior Sarawak Customs officer received a death threat when a letter containing two bullets was found in the parking lot of his home on Thursday (November 26).
Customs Director General Datuk Seri Abdul Latif Abdul Kadir said he was believed to have been dispatched in connection with his officer’s involvement in conducting operations at the Port of Rajang and the Port of Bintulu in Sarawak from October 21 to November 13.
He said that the envelope, which had the word ‘death’ and a note written in red that said “I have two bullets, one short, one long, which one do you want (sic)”, was found by the officer around 11.30 in the morning from Thursday.
He said closed circuit television (CCTV) camera recordings showed a man getting out of a car in front of the officer’s home before dumping something in the parking lot at around 7.15pm on Wednesday (November 25).
Abdul Latif said in a statement that the officer had submitted a police report on the incident to ensure his safety and that of his family, adding that police went to the home to conduct an investigation the same day.
According to him, a similar note was previously found at the house of the officer’s front neighbor and he did not rule out the possibility that it was also addressed to the officer.
“The senior officer’s neighbor submitted a report and informed the customs officer about the incident,” he said.
Abdul Latif thanked the police for their efforts in handling the problem and for successfully arresting three people to assist in the investigations.
He stressed that Customs will continue to defend the security of the country through strict application of the law and will not compromise with threats from any element that disturbs the sovereignty and security of the country.
“Customs takes any form of intimidation or threat to its officers seriously,” he said.
Operations at the two ports led to the successful seizure of goods worth around RM2.64 million, as well as taxes and duties estimated at RM655.301.-Called
