COVID-19 | Malaysia reported 11 new cases of Covid-19 today, including a new outbreak at the Semenyih immigration detention warehouse.
Semenyih IDD Group 2 represents two of the four locally transmitted cases reported today, while imported cases represent the remaining seven new cases.
This is the second time that the detention center in Semenyih has been affected by a Covid-19 outbreak.
In a statement today, the director general of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, said that the index case is a detainee at the facility who was about to be deported to his home country.
Case 9302 was tested for Covid-19 prior to deportation and tested positive on August 27.
“The second and third cases in this group (namely, case 9382 and case 9384) are the IDD immigration agents who accompanied the index case to a health clinic for the detection of Covid-19. They are two of the four immigration officers who accompanied the index case.

“The source of the infection is still being investigated,” he said, adding that 269 people have been tested so far.
Of these, three people tested positive, 123 people tested negative, and 143 are still awaiting results.
They include 134 detainees, 129 IDD staff members, and six staff relatives.
