SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government has announced three new initiatives to curb the spread of Covid-19.
The initiatives, agreed during the 14th special meeting of the Selangor Security Council, are to isolate cargo workers from KL International Airport (KLIA), identify five locations to open low-risk quarantine and treatment centers, and increase coordination with district health offices to expedite the detection of foreign workers.
Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the first is an initiative by the state government and related agencies to help curb the spread of the infection among KLIA workers, especially foreigners.
It said 9,056 (82%) of the 11,000 local and foreign workers in the cargo division had undergone a test, with only seven positive cases detected since last Thursday. All seven are Malaysians.
The cost of the screening will be borne by the company, while the state will bear half the cost of accommodation for participants from November 26 to December 9, it said in a statement.
Amirudin said that the second initiative was to provide accommodation for asymptomatic positive people to reduce the number of patients in Covid-19 hospitals.
Regarding the third initiative, he said that the state government had directed the district safety committees and disaster management committees to coordinate with local authorities and district health offices to speed up the selection of foreign workers.
He said that although there had been an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the state, the situation was under control.
“This is because the new cases are coming from areas where the enhanced motion control order is being applied,” he said.
