KLANG: The ruler of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, is concerned about the increase in the number of new Covid-19 cases in Selangor and in the country, as well as the water disruption that people in the state are facing.

“Following the new developments, His Highness is urging the people to continue to adhere to standard operating procedures and not to disobey the instructions issued by the Ministry of Health and the National Security Council,” Selangor Palace said in a statement on Monday. (October 19) signed by Sultan Sharafuddin’s private secretary, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani.

Mohamad Munir said that Sultan Sharafuddin also highly values the efforts of doctors and nurses, as well as other leaders who work hard to care for Covid-19 patients.

“Given this, do not overwhelm the avant-garde because His Highness came to know that there are many people who do not comply with the instructions and the POE that has been set,” he said.

He added that Sultan Sharafuddin specifically advised people to remain at home and not go out if there was no urgent need to do so and to always wear a mask in public places.

Sultan Sharafuddin also urged people who had been in high-risk places or places classified as red zones to immediately report to the nearest health center for testing and not to keep their health a secret.

The ruler emphasized that the current approach was to ensure that the risk of infection can be reduced and ultimately eradicate the spread of the pandemic from Malaysia.

In another matter, Sultan Sharafuddin was saddened by the plight of the people of the state who are fighting the Covid-19 pandemic and at the same time facing water disruption.

“His Highness has written many times to the federal and state governments regarding the water issue since 2010 so that the issue is not politicized,” he said.

He added that the ruler had asked both governments to counter the problem immediately, as water was a basic need for the people.

“The last letter from His Highness dated September 8, 2020, on the problem of water interruption, has been sent to the Mentri Besar,” he said.

Sultan Sharafuddin had advised and given some recommendations as well as insights to overcome the water disruption, but it seemed to have had no effect as the same problem persisted and bothered his subjects, he added.
