Selangor sees a small shakeup in the lineup

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government has reorganized some of its executive council portfolios, including those involving Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.

Amirudin said the minor reorganization came into effect immediately after the appointment on September 17 of two new state executive councilors, namely Tanjong Sepat Assemblyman Borhan Aman Shah and Sungai Kandis Assemblyman Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni.

Apart from that, he said that five new portfolios were introduced in line with the current needs of the state government, namely Cultural Innovation and Smart Selangor; disaster management; empowerment of employees; Unit; and halal industry.

According to Amirudin, Borhan had been assigned the development portfolio of rural and traditional villages, Malay customs, culture and heritage. Zawawi would take over the portfolio of Islamic affairs, consumer affairs and the halal industry.

“Two existing portfolios have been renamed from Housing and Urban Life to Housing and Urban Wellness, while the Health Portfolio is now known as Public Health,” he said today in a statement.

The minor reorganization involved the chairman of the Committee on Housing and Urban Welfare and Business Development, Rodziah Ismail; The chairman of the Committee for Tourism, Environment and Ecological Technology and Orang Asal Affairs, Hee Loy Sian; The president of the Committee for Socioeconomic Development, Social Welfare and Empowerment of Employees, V Ganabatirau; and the president of the Public Health, Unity, Women and Family Development Committee, Dr. Siti Mariah Mahmud.

Amirudin, who chairs the finance and economy, land and natural resource development, and strategic communications and education committees, will have two new portfolios: Cultural Innovation and Smart Selangor, as well as Disaster Management.

He explained that the position of another four state executive directors has been maintained and hopes that the reorganization will benefit the people of Selangor.
