SHAH ALAM: The RM1bil from the state coffers that an assemblyman said has disappeared has been spent on infrastructure for the state, says Selangor Mentri Besar.

“RM1bil from government reserves was used for the construction of important infrastructure in the state and was not lost,” Amirudin Shari said at a press conference during an event at the state secretariat on Thursday (November 5).

Kota Anggerik Assemblyman Mohd Najwan Halimi, while debating the state budget on Tuesday (November 3), asked for an explanation about the decrease in the amount in state coffers in recent years.

“We can surely still remember that the Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim administration left behind more than RM3.3bil in state reserves,” he said.

He said that the reserves had decreased to RM2.4 billion and the amount in the reserves had dropped to around RM1.8 billion.

“I am sure the time has come for the state government to explain how it has decreased by more than RM1bil before Sungai Tua (Amirudin) took over as mentri kissing,” Najwan added.

Amirudin explained that large projects paid for with RM1bil included the Labohan Dagang Water Treatment Plant Project, which cost RM700 thousand, the Semenyih 2 Water Treatment Plant and the third Klang bridge, the Raja Muda Nala Bridge.

“When Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim was the mentri kissing, the state reserves were in fact at RM3.3bil and now their RM2.1bil, but the money did not disappear, but was spent to implement development projects for the benefit of the people”, Amirudin said.
