KLANG: Investigations carried out by Selangor Health Department and Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) could not shed light on how the Covid-19 infection had taken hold in the hospital, says Datuk Dr. Sha’ari Ngadiman .

The Selangor Health Director said in a statement that it was unclear if the 50 staff members, who are currently being treated at Sungai Buloh Hospital, had contracted the virus before the patients were admitted to the hospital, or when they (the patients) were in incubation for 14 days. period.

“Klang, being in a red zone and an increase in cases of severe acute respiratory infection that sought treatment at HTAR may have caused the increase in Covid-19 cases (the hospital).

“The hospital is always cautious and ensures that standard operating procedures and the use of personal protective equipment are always followed,” said Dr. Sha’ari.

Although Dr. Sha’ari confirmed that there were also infected patients, he did not reveal the figures.

Sources claim that there were around 100 positive cases of Covid-19 at HTAR, and 50 of them were patients who had been admitted there to be treated for other ailments.

Dr. Sha’ari said the situation was nevertheless under control, with all contacts swabbed and placed under a home surveillance order.

All patients who had been in contact with infected hospital staff were also tested with swabs.

“The patients were still being treated (in the hospital) and the situation is under control.

“The public is advised not to come to the hospital, unless necessary,” Dr. Sha’ari said, adding that people should also refrain from spreading unverified news to avoid confusion and concern among the community there.

Earlier, Klang MP Charles Santiago lashed out at the Health Ministry and the state health department for allowing the hospital to keep the matter a secret for so long.
