IPOH: See you in Seri Satria (official residence of the Deputy Prime Minister), PPBM Vice President Ahmad Faizal Azumu jokingly told reporters today, after handing over his resignation as head of the Perak state government.
Seri Satria is in Putrajaya. His comment came hours after a poster was widely shared on social media, congratulating Ahmad Faizal on his alleged appointment as deputy prime minister.
Ahmad Faizal is vice president of PPBM, whose president, Muhyiddin Yassin, is prime minister. Muhyiddin has not appointed a deputy prime minister, but has appointed four high-level ministers and appointed one of them, Azmin Ali, to chair cabinet meetings in his absence.
Azmin, a former vice president of PKR, was among those behind the “Sheraton Movement” in February that led to the collapse of the federal government of Pakatan Harapan and the formation of the Perikatan Nasional coalition government headed by Muhyiddin.
Ahmad Faizal was overthrown yesterday by a vote of confidence in the Perak state assembly, which was defeated by 48 votes to 10 and one abstention.
