KOTA BARU (Bernama): A school security guard pleaded not guilty in Court of Sessions here on Thursday (January 28) of committing physical sexual assault on a 13-year-old girl on Monday (January 25).
Muhammad Afiq Mohamed Zahari, 28, pleaded guilty after the charge against him was read before Judge Ahmad Bazli Bahruddin.
According to the charge sheet, he allegedly committed the crime with sexual intent by touching the girl’s shoulders from behind with his hands in a school compound, near here, around 5.14 pm on January 25.
He was charged under Section 14 (a) of the Sex Crimes Against Children of 2017, punishable under Section 14 of the same act, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in jail and flogging, upon conviction.
Deputy Prosecutor Mohd Faizudin Sulaiman appeared for the indictment, while the accused was not represented.
The court granted bail of RM15,000 with bail, in addition to the fact that the defendant has to report to the nearest police station every month and is not allowed to disturb the victim.
