KUCHING (December 14): The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has decided to reduce the mandatory quarantine period in Sarawak from 14 to 10 days in accordance with the decision of the Ministry of Health with immediate effect.

In a statement today, SDMC said Sarawak residents returning from abroad must undergo mandatory quarantine for 10 days at designated quarantine centers.

“The rt-PCR test will be performed on the second and eighth day. If the test result on the eighth day is negative, they will be released from the quarantine center on the tenth day and must resume home quarantine until the fourteenth day.

“They will have to wear wristbands,” he said.

As for non-Sarawak and non-Malaysian people, they must undergo mandatory quarantine for 10 days and perform rt-PCR testing at the first points of entry. The negative result of the rT-PCR test will be valid for three days prior to entry into Sarawak. They will be given a home quarantine order until the 14th. Wrist bands are also required.

Meanwhile, all citizens and non-citizens returning from Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Labuan are also required to self-quarantine for 10 days at a designated quarantine center.

The rT-PCR test will be taken on the second and eighth days. If the test result on the eighth day is negative, they will be discharged from the quarantine center on the tenth day and will continue the remaining quarantine at home until the 14th. They must wear wristbands.

To enter from Sabah and Labuan, the rT-PCR test is required three days before entering Sarawak.

Non-Sarawak people from Sabah and Labuan are still prohibited from entering without any important reason.

In addition, SDMC reported that the Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture has perfected the Guidelines for Medical Tourism. These guidelines will go into effect on December 16.

Health Director General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced on Sunday that the quarantine period for travelers returning from abroad and close contacts of positive cases will be reduced from 14 to 10 days from 14 December.

He said it applies to the surveillance and observation order implemented in official quarantine centers or at home.
