KUCHING: Malays and non-Malays entering Sarawak through Labuan or Sabah will need to complete the EnterSarawak application or website with supporting documents and undergo an rT-PCR test for Covid-19 three days prior to the date of trip, starting on September 21, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) announced today.

SDMC President Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said Malaysians entering the state via flights from Penang will receive a Covid-19 test on a random basis upon arrival at Kuching International Airport (KIA).

“For Sarawak residents returning from abroad, they will be quarantined at the ‘First Point of Entry’ in Sarawak and will not be allowed to have any transit to reach their destination,” he said during the daily update press conference here. .

Uggah said Sarawak residents who had to travel to and from Brunei and Sabah for work reasons will need to present a special letter issued by the Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) in Miri and Limbang.

He said they will also be required to undergo a Covid-19 test every two weeks, in addition to complying with standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the Ministry of Health (MoH).

“For workers in the oil and gas sector who need to travel to their respective oil rigs and have been in Sarawak for 30 days, they will not be asked to take the Covid-19 test.

“However, for workers outside of Sarawak, they will be required to take the Covid-19 test and adhere to the SOP,” he added.

For foreign workers working in the construction and plantation sectors, as well as foreign students, Uggah said they will only be allowed to enter Sarawak if they meet various conditions.

He said they need to have a valid work permit or student permit, submit their applications to SDMC (case by case), and complete the EnterSarawak application or website.

“The company, institution or student in question must bear the costs of the two Covid-19 tests and the mandatory 14-day quarantine.

“The company or institution should prepare for transportation to transfer its workers through the entry point to the quarantine center. This is mainly for Indonesian workers, ”he added.

Uggah said that sports and recreation centers within the jurisdiction of the Kuching South City Council will be able to resume operations in strict compliance with the SOP established by the Local Government and the Ministry of Housing.

He added that horse racing will also be able to operate in compliance with the SOPs established by the ministry in question.

“Baby spas will also be able to operate in accordance with the SOP established by the Local Government and the Ministry of Housing,” he said.

Uggah noted that people had sacrificed a lot and embraced the new normal for everyone’s safety and general well-being during this Covid-19 pandemic.

As such, he asked everyone not to be complacent, but to always adhere to the SOP set by the authorities to break the chain of infection.

“I urge everyone to adhere to the SOP, especially by practicing social distancing and wearing masks in crowded places. Please stay alert, stay safe, stay healthy and save lives. Let’s take care of Sarawak together, ”he said.
