THOSE who bought fish at the Petaling Jaya Old Town market in Jalan Othman from April 5 to 18 are encouraged to fill out the Covid-19 screening form after a fishmonger operating there tested positive for the virus.

Similarly, those who bought vegetables at the Taman Megah market in Petaling Jaya between April 8-25, are invited to fill out the Covid-19 screening form when a vegetable merchant tested positive for the virus.

Both wet markets are temporarily closed due to sanitation by the authorities.

Petaling District Officer Johary Anuar, who made the announcement, said the screening process was when health clinics would screen those who are at high risk for Covid-19.

After evaluation, some will be called in for the Covid-19 test later.

Bukit Gasing Assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran advised those who visited the two markets at the time to first fill out the online forms created by the Taman Medan and Kelana Jaya health clinics before going to the clinics.

Those who visited the Jalan Othman market must complete the online form at https://bit.ly/2y35hll, while Taman Megah market goers can go to https://bit.ly/2Y87fvC.

“Many residents have been anxious since the markets closed. All merchants and their assistants are being tested.

“However, market visitors must fill out evaluation forms to be called for testing.

“We don’t want thousands of people to fill the clinics,” he said.

Yesterday at the Taman Megah market, the operators and their assistants underwent a Covid-19 test.

Pescadero See Soon Chye said the procedure took about 15 minutes, adding that he was not sure when the market would reopen.

However, he appreciated the closure of the market and the medical tests of the traders.

John Tan, 35, a Taman SEA resident, said he went to the Taman Megah market twice a week and was concerned if he might have been infected.

“I had the test done in a private hospital and it was negative. I am single and stay with my elderly parents. I’m concerned about them, “said Tan.

Tan asked to be tested at the market, but was told to go to Klinik Kesihatan Kelana Jaya for examination.

At the Jalan Othman market, merchants were seen cleaning the premises. Some sprayed the floors while others cleaned the lights.

Traders and their assistants will be tested today.
