Scott McTominay has been supportive Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Manchester United’s difficult start to the season and insists the players still “believe every word” the manager says in the locker room.
The Red Devils recovered well after a miserable 3-1 loss at home to Crystal Palace in their first Premier League game of the season and won their next three matches in all competitions.
But a wave of criticism was directed at Solskjaer and United following their humiliating 6-1 loss to José Mourinho’s Tottenham and the Norwegian admitted it was the ‘worst day’ of his career to date.
Solskjaer may have been desperate to get out of the game as quickly as possible, but the international break followed immediately and the 47-year-old will have been reflecting on every decision he made at Old Trafford for the past week and a half.
However, it appears that the United head coach still has the full backing of his team, with the departure of Norwegian. TV2 revealing some revealing comments McTominay made after the resounding loss to the Spurs.
“The whole club is behind him,” said the Scottish midfielder.
We believe in every word he says, and it’s not just him.
“We trust every word from Mike Phelan, Kieran McKenna, Michael Carrick and all the support staff.”
United they have He reportedly entered into talks with Maurcio Pochettino after the worrying start of Solskjaer’s new campaign.
The 48-year-old Argentine, strongly attached to the position before Solskjaer’s permanent appointment, has been out of work since his firing at Tottenham last November.
Sir Alex Ferguson is known to be an admirer of Pochettino and Dimitar Berbatov believes the Red Devils may be forced to consider Solskjaer’s future if their poor results continue.
However, the Bulgarian has warned that Pochettino could be the latest in a long list of ‘saviors’ doomed to failure at the Theater of Dreams.
“Ole Gunner Solskjaer has received some criticism recently, I can understand why the odds are that he is the coach most likely to leave his post, especially if they continue down this path,” Berbatov said. Betfair earlier this month.
The pressure on him will only continue to grow, and if they continue not to score points, the time will likely come when action is taken. I think he’s still fine for work personally and we’ll have to see.
‘For me it is incredible that Mauricio Pochettino is available for this job, one of the best football coaches in my opinion.
You can say that maybe he waited for this job, but it is very risky for a coach, and I cannot believe that another club has not signed him.
‘Pochettino may be “the man”, but at some point, they were all “the man” – [David] Moyes, [Louis] van Gaal, Mourinho, they were all the next savior at one stage.
For United fans, I would say that everyone connected to the team is in some way suffering. The ones who will express their feelings the strongest will be the fans, and I can understand this.
“United is run by people who want the club to succeed, and the glory days will return, there is no doubt about that, only when will that be, is the question.”
