PETALING JAYA: A total of 56 schools in Southwest Penang Subdistrict 12, which has been declared a red zone, will be closed from November 6-20.

The Education Ministry said the 56 schools include government primary and secondary schools, vocational colleges, boarding schools and government-registered private schools.

“Parents with children staying in shelters are advised to bring them home.

“However, those who are waiting for their parents to pick them up or who choose to stay in the shelters while the schools are closed will be placed under the care of the shelter warden.

“Schools and institutions will provide food and beverages during that period,” the ministry said in a statement.

Students who are scheduled to sit for international exams during that period must obtain a letter from their schools before taking the exams.

Online learning will take place during that period and the teaching and learning manuals can be downloaded from www.moe.gov.my.

The ministry will continue to provide updates on school closings and is monitoring the situation working together with the National Security Council and the Ministry of Health.

On Wednesday (November 4), Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob also announced that the Conditional Movement Control Order (MCO) will be enforced in Sub-District 12 in southwest Penang from November 6 to 19.

Subdistrict 12 comprises Bayan Baru, Sungai Ara, Batu Maung, Desa Ria, Free Trade Zone 3 and Free Trade Zone 4.
