Schools in Covid-19 red zones told to close

PETALING JAYA: All schools in Covid-19 red zones were ordered to close from today until October 23.

The Education Ministry said the order involved 142 schools in Klang and 242 schools in Sandakan, Papar and Tuaran in Sabah.

“The schools comprise all the primary and secondary schools under the ministry, as well as private schools registered with the ministry.

“Students and teachers will resume learning at home during this time,” he said in a statement.

The ministry added that during the period, principals and rectors will ensure that teachers and students conduct the teaching and learning process at home based on the suitability of the teachers and students.

“As for the schools that are taking the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia mock exams during the period, they can reschedule it for a later date.

Boarding schools, including professional colleges, will also be closed and parents or guardians must bring their children home.

“However, students waiting to be picked up by their parents or students who wish to remain in the school dormitory and the vocational college during this period will be under the care of the shelter guardian,” the ministry said, adding that the meal it would be provided by the schools.
