KUCHING: Sarawak will not follow the Health Ministry’s decision to allow ministers returning from an official visit abroad to undergo observation for just three days.

The state’s housing and local government minister, Dr. Sim Kui Hian, said that anyone entering Sarawak still had to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine at a designated hotel or facility.

“The policy remains the same: those returning from abroad must be quarantined for 14 days and a swab test will be taken on the 10th day, regardless of whether they are ministers, YB or VIP,” he said when contacted.

He said that the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee would seek the advice of medical experts before deciding to make quarantine policy changes.

He was responding to an order signed by Health Minister Dr. Adham Baba saying that ministers returning from any official visit abroad must now undergo observation for just three days or surveillance until they can be discharged without danger to the public.

The new rule is contained in a ministerial order in effect from February 9 to August 1. It was published in the Official Government Gazette under the Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control Act.
