MIRI: Sarawak PKR suggests that police reset the roadblocks in the cities and towns of the state at night, claiming that they have noticed an increase in people leaving that time.

“The police have completely removed all obstacles in Miri and in other cities considered green areas. There are more people leaving after office hours,” said Dr. Michael Teo, head of the Sarawak PKR community health office.

Rep. Miri said he was concerned that if this persisted, the public might ignore social distancing.

Dr. Teo said there was an immediate need to remind the public that the Covid-19 pandemic had not yet occurred, in Sarawak and Malaysia in general.

“The possibility of a second wave of Covid-19 (infections) is very real and the police must regain a strong presence through constant patrols and roadblocks to remind them that they cannot go in groups,” he told The Star on Sunday. ( May 10).

Dr. Teo said Sarawak should not relax its movement control order even though it is allowing most companies and industrial sectors to resume operations.

“We should bear in mind that when the blockade was removed in places like Singapore and Japan, there were sharp increases in Covid-19 cases, so much so that control was lost there. It can happen in Sarawak,” he said. .

Covid-19 has caused 17 deaths and around 540 positive cases in Sarawak so far.
