PETALING JAYA: The Sarawak PKR leadership council has unanimously rejected Larry Sng’s decision to step down as president of the state chapter.
In a statement issued after an emergency meeting, the council also gave its full support to the Julau deputy to continue as head of the Sarawak PKR until the next party elections.
“We would like to urge the members of Sarawak to remain calm and give their full support to all leaders.”
The statement was issued by Sarawak PKR Chief Information Officer Abun Sui Anyit.
Yesterday, Sng confirmed his resignation from the FMT, saying that it was best for the party to be led by a dayak leader in the 12 state elections in Sarawak.
Earlier, in a Facebook post, he had written that the Dayaks were the majority in Sarawak, but their areas were the poorest and least developed.
Sng denied then that his decision to resign came after disputes over the allocation of seats between Pakatan Harapan’s parties in the state.
He also said that he will soon meet with party chairman Anwar Ibrahim about his next move: whether or not to quit the party.
Sng was appointed party chairman in March to replace Selangau MP Baru Bian, who resigned from the party during the “Sheraton Move.”
