Public Works Minister Fadillah Yusof says Michael Teo’s accusations are unfounded.

KUCHING: Chief Minister Fadillah Yusof has rejected a claim by a PKR vice president that delays in Sarawak’s hospital projects had led to a lack of places to treat Covid-19 patients.

Fadillah said the allegations by Rep. Miri Michael Teo were unfounded.

Even amid the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the government had done everything it could to meet the essential needs of the population, including ensuring that adequate facilities were available, he said.

Teo was reported to have said yesterday that the government should be proactive in speeding up works on abandoned hospital projects in Sarawak.

Fadillah said that the JKR (Department of Public Works) was constantly monitoring the progress of the projects and was taking steps to accelerate the works despite the inevitable limitations (during the Covid-19 pandemic).

He said the government’s handling of the pandemic had been recognized as one of the best in the world.

Fadillah said the Petra Jaya Hospital project was in the tender evaluation stage and that a Letter of Acceptance is scheduled for late December and the date of ownership at the construction site in January next year.

Regarding the 76-bed Lawas Hospital project, he said that construction began on June 30 and the percentage of progress was 0.13% as of July 31, and that its completion is scheduled for the end of 2023.

Fadillah said the Sri Aman Hospital project is being actively implemented, with close monitoring by JKR to ensure it can meet its planned completion date of February 2021.
