Sapura Energy refutes news of bribery related to Petrobras contracts

KUALA LUMPUR: Sapura Energy Bhd has refuted recent news of any involvement in any form of bribery or corruption in its business in Brazil and elsewhere in the world.

It issued the statement on Thursday following news of investigations involving Sapura Energy and Seadrill for alleged involvement in bribery related to Petrobras contracts.

Sapura Energy said in a previous investigation by Brazilian authorities in 2016 and 2017, that the company was acquitted of all allegations of bribery or corruption.

“The company has cooperated in the past and will continue to cooperate with any regulatory or investigative authority regarding bribery and corruption,” he said.

It said it has a strict policy against bribery and corruption and has internal policies and procedures to mitigate this risk.

As part of its governance and processes, the company said it has a clause in all its anti-bribery agreements that will void the agreement if bribery is involved or is suspected of being involved.

“In the past, we have taken immediate steps to end contractual obligations whenever a suspicion of bribery or corruption arose. These facts demonstrate and are clear evidence of the company’s commitment to its zero tolerance policy towards bribery and corruption ”, he said.
