KUALA LUMPUR: Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah (pix) has expressed his intention to receive the Covid-19 vaccine together with media professionals.
However, it is still waiting for the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee to set the vaccination date.
“I don’t know (the date), it really lives up to the schedule. By the way, I should have been vaccinated by now, but I applied for Sinovac and took it together with journalists, ”he told reporters after attending the Jelajah Malaysia Prihatin program at the Center for Urban Transformation (UTC) in Sentul today.
Saifuddin said that he had asked National Covid-19 Immunization Program Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Adham Baba to prioritize media professionals as vaccine recipients.
“They (Khairy and Adham) said they will try to prioritize journalists but not together with the front-line. They understand that journalists, cameramen and photographers are always on the ground meeting people, ”he said.
Meanwhile, he said the encouragement for the public to watch movies and support the local film industry is not just for entertainment, but also to help ensure the survival of industry players.
Saifuddin said he realized that there were some quarters that criticized the suggestion, but today, there are 30,000 people who depend solely on income from filming activities, 5,000 employees in cinemas, and 10,000 people involved in the music industry. .
“Not filming means not working. So I hope people understand (why they need to) support local movies. It is not entertainment but it is their source of income and if activities are stopped, they will suffer, “he said.
When asked about the method of selecting recipients for device assistance through the MYBAIKHATI campaign, Saifuddin said that the ministry would use data from the eligible B40 group according to the list prepared by the Internal Revenue Board.
The campaign, which is at the core of the Strategic Plan for the Empowerment of People and the Economy (PEMERKASA), uses the concept of crowdsourcing, which will consist of collecting donations of used devices from companies and individuals through selected branches of six telecommunications companies.
Previously, Saifuddin participated in the ‘Sembang Warung’ program with local community leaders from the Seri Perak Public Housing Residents Association, Persatuan Wanita Ibu dan Anak-Anak Kuala Lumpur (Pewanida), Badan Amal Warga Asnaf (BAWA) for the district Batu Election, Sentul UTC Merchants Association and Amru Ibni Al-As Mosque Committee.
The program was carried out to explain the government’s initiatives and measures, as well as the implementation of the Emergency Proclamation, to face the Covid-19 pandemic.- Called
