The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia has issued a statement reassure the public about the veracity of the official Covid-19 data from the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said concerns had been raised about attempts by certain parties to maliciously question the reliability of the Health Ministry’s Covid-19 data, which is announced on a daily basis.

He said this during a special meeting of the National Security Council chaired by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on October 27.

“This act of questioning the authenticity of the data is a malicious and deliberate attempt to incite confusion and sow distrust towards the government’s effort to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic,” he added.

Saifuddin explained that the government has always ensured that the data published by the Ministry of Health is valid and accurate.

“The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) are investigating this matter and severe action will be taken against irresponsible parties,” he added.

Saifuddin also guaranteed that the data from the Ministry of Health, published on Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) and Bernama channels, are authentic.

He also advised members of the public to ensure that any information they have received comes from reliable sources before sharing it with others.

If there is any doubt about a certain report or information, Saifuddin urged members of the public to visit www.sebenarnya.my or report the Rapid Response Team on 03 8911 5103 to investigate the authenticity of the information.

On October 26, Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah refuted claims made by some parties on social media that Covid-19 data, which recorded 1,228 cases on Saturday (October 24, ), had been forged.

A WhatsApp message was also widely circulated stating that Muhyiddin had ordered the Health Ministry to falsify the figures.

“This data is not being manipulated. These are the facts we have. We use this system from day one. It can’t be that when the data shows zero or one-digit figures, we accept it, but when it shows a figure greater than 1,000, we reject the data, ”said Dr. Noor Hisham.

The Ministry of Health collects Covid-19 data from all Malaysian states at 12pm every day through the public health information system.

“It comes not just from me, but from the entire team that collects this data,” he said, adding that discussions will also take place once the data has been collected.
