Sabah wants closer ties with China as the state recovers after Covid-19

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government wants to have a closer working relationship with the Chinese government as the state seeks to rebuild its economy and renew its agricultural industry.

In his speech at the Chinese Consulate General office here on Saturday (December 19), Senior Vice Minister Datuk Seri, Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, said that Sabah is in dire need of economic improvement after a disastrous year due to the pandemic. Covid-19.

“We have a lot to catch up on, but we are fortunate to have the support of China to guide us and help us achieve our ambition,” he said.

“Sabah is an agricultural state and we seek to elevate this industry through the use of 5G technology,” he said.

Jeffrey said China is the leading country on the technology front, achieving one breakthrough after another, beating any other country in the world.

Jeffrey, who is also the state’s Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, said this at a ceremony to deliver donations to the Tambunan Bondulu Orphanage by Consul General Liang Caide here.

He also said that Sabah is grateful for China’s continued support through its consulate in Kota Kinabalu and called for further cooperation in the future.

This includes sharing your knowledge and experience on how to handle the Covid-19 pandemic more efficiently.

Liang said that the welfare of the people of Sabah has always been the concern of the Consulate General.

“Especially in this period, the Consulate General stands ready to provide assistance within its capacity, to support the people of Sabah to overcome difficulties and regain hope,” he said in his speech.

He noted that Sabah is an important node on the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

He hoped to jointly promote the resumption of exchanges and cooperation in various fields by opening a new chapter in China-Sabah cooperation after the pandemic.
