KOTA KINABALU: The three candidates running in the Sabah elections who are currently in quarantine for Covid-19 have moved to alternative platforms to carry out their campaign in the few days until the polls on Saturday (26 of September).
The trio competing within Sipitang had conducted preliminary tests for Covid-19 earlier this week and are now in a 14-day quarantine due to coming into close contact with Umno’s supreme council member Mohd Razlan Rafii, who gave positive for Covid-19 while campaigning in Sabah. .

Barisan Nasional’s candidate for the Sindumin seat, Sani Miasin, said that he will be accommodated in a hotel, but said that his swab test taken on Monday (September 21) had come back negative.
“However, we must follow the standard operating procedure (SOP).
“I don’t worry about campaigning because I have the party machinery, I can also make calls and use social networks like Facebook and WhatsApp (communications application) to communicate.
“I also trust the former leaders here who have experience to represent me in ceramah,” he said when contacted on Thursday (September 24).
He said that since he tested negative, he was given permission to vote on Election Day on Saturday and completed a form from the Ministry of Health.
“The SOPs will depend on the Electoral Commission, they will update it, but so far they have not given me details,” added Sani.
Parti Warisan Sabah candidate Datuk Dr. Yusof Yacob, who is also running for the Sindumin seat, is currently using Skype video conferencing to communicate with voters at a rented house in Kampung Palakat, Sipitang, to undergo his quarantine. .
Their media officer Mazlan Sanoh confirmed this, although he said that they have not yet obtained the results of the Covid-19 test.
“We were told to wait five days (starting Monday, September 21) and we were informed that it will take time as too many tests were being carried out,” Mazlan said.
He added that the game plan was to continue using Skype to connect the candidate with voters in scheduled campaign programs.
Meanwhile, Barisan’s candidate for Lumadan, Datuk Kamarlin Ombi, said on Thursday (September 24) that his test result had been negative.
In news reports on Wednesday (September 23), Kamarlin expressed confidence that it will not affect his chances in the Lumadan seat, as people knew him from his time as an elected representative.
“I have been the assemblyman of Lumadan for two terms, people know me … I have done everything possible in Lumadan,” he said.
In the 14th General Election of 2018, Kamarlin was replaced by Matbali Musah for the seat.
