KOTA KINABALU: Two political parties criticized Sabah’s interim government for proposing the formation of two new state ministries, saying this would be a waste of money.
Sabah STAR Chairman Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan questioned the recent statement by Acting Chairman and Parti Warisan Sabah Chairman Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal on the possibility of two new ministries being formed if the Warisan Plus coalition returns to power in the next state elections.
“Shafie recently said that he will restructure the administration of the ministries (in Sabah) with the possibility of two more new ministries.
“But when the Warisan coalition took over the state government in 2018, three newly staffed ministries were formed (Education and Innovation; Health and Welfare of the People; and Law and Native Affairs).
“So what led Shafie to suddenly realize that he needs two more new ministries?” Kitingan asked in a statement on Wednesday (September 2).
He added that this would confuse the people of Sabah, as the Warisan-led state government had claimed that the previous administration left Sabah in dire straits, but was now proposing two more ministries.
This, he said, would incur substantial expenses, administrative costs and emoluments.
Heads of departments and agencies believed to support the previous Barisan Nasional government were removed and replaced by less experienced officials, Kitingan said.
“Perhaps he suddenly realized that his administration needs to be more focused on ‘managing his wealth better’ because the stark reality is that his administration had messed with state government policies and programs,” he added.
Meanwhile, Parti Cinta Sabah high councilor Wilson Chang said Shafie’s plan raised public concerns about its need and motive.
He said people were concerned that taxpayers’ money would be wasted again on unnecessary expenses that would not directly benefit them in any way, he said in a statement.
Chang also asked why more details were not given on these two ministries, adding that if Shafie and the Warisan Plus coalition insisted on creating the new ministries, they should first explain how the three new ministries they created when they first came to power had benefited the government. persons.
“Show people how (three ministries) have performed and let people judge whether their performance has been of any direct benefit to them,” he argued.
