Sabah Polls: PCS Announces Candidates for 72 Seats, Fixing Technical Issues in Remaining Apas Seat

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS), led by former Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, announced its candidates for 72 seats in the upcoming Sabah elections.

Anifah, who is running in Bongawan, said the plan was to compete in all 73 seats, but they still need to solve the technical problems for the Apas seat.

Anifah said the reason PCS decided to compete in all seats was to make sure no one felt abandoned in every district.

“Perhaps it would not be fair if of the 73 seats, we only contested in 60 constituencies, so we want to prevent someone from feeling neglected because PCS did not present a candidate there,” he said.

He also said that other state parties that have associated with national parties are not considered local parties.

“We, PCS, are alone, and we are Sabahans, so why do we have to work with other (national) parties when we can form the state government?

“We don’t need Bersatu and Bersatu doesn’t need us … So if we win, do we need them?” he said at a press conference on Thursday (September 10).

However, Anifah indicated that the door is always open for local opposition parties willing to work with them.

“Sabah should be governed by Sabahans, but we can still cooperate with the federal side. But there is nothing wrong if I ask to be left alone to decide our future, I do not think it is confrontational.

“Just because we want to run our own state doesn’t mean we’re against the federal side,” he said when asked to clarify the importance of federal ties.
