PETALING JAYA: A Sabah PKR leader has said that opposition leadership remains strong, contrary to Warisan President Shafie Apdal’s claim that it may fail in the 15th general election (GE15) if the current generation of Leaders still in the driver’s seat.
The state’s youth chief, Raymond Ahuar, said that parties such as Warisan and Pejuang were the ones trying to weaken Pakatan Harapan (PH) by not supporting his efforts in parliament.
“They are acting independently just because of personal problems with the PH leaders. If you look at the government of Perikatan Nasional (PN) today, it does not have the strength to get either 112 votes from parliamentarians, or 50% support, for the 2021 budget, ”he said in a statement.
Investigating Warisan’s plan to spread his wings to the peninsula, he said it was best for Shafie to focus on taking back the Sabah government from the PN after the people rejected him in state elections on September 26.
“I am not opposed to your decision to extend the Warisan legacy to the peninsula in the spirit of democracy. However, it’s a bit awkward that he wants to take Warisan there after failing in Sabah.
“In the Sabah campaign, almost every billboard had his face printed on it. It failed to convey the true message of unity and it was not accepted by the Kadazan, Dusun and Murut communities. “
It reminded Shafie that PKR had focused on unity much earlier in 1998 by forming a national multi-racial and multi-religious political party. “And today, we are the largest multiracial party in the country with over a million members.”
He said that the unification of all opposition parties without a personal agenda can definitely strengthen the existing pact.
“So I advise Shafie to stop dragging personal problems into politics and immediately find common ground to restore the mandate of the people won in GE14,” he said.
