KUALA LUMPUR: A Sabah legislator wants his fellow state deputy to be referred to Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee for allegedly violating quarantine orders.

Chan Foong Hin (PH-Kota Kinabalu) intervened and requested that Keningau MP Datuk Seri Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan (Photo) be referred to the committee for failing to comply with the Chamber’s 14-day self-quarantine requirement as a measure to contain Covid-19.

“I would like to refer to the letter that MPs received from Dewan Rakyat on October 9, which states that all Sabah MPs must be quarantined for 14 days, so why is Keningau exempt from this?

“I would like to refer you to the committee, so please make a decision, Chairman,” Chan said in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (November 25).

Dewan Rakyat Vice President Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon, who was presiding over the proceedings at the time, said the House had received a letter from the Health Department on the matter.

“This is a continuation of the issue raised on Tuesday (November 24), but to sum it up, we have the letter from the Department of Health.

The Parliament doctor has also referred to the Department of Health and obtained information from the Ministry of Health on the matter.

“If you want to refer YB Keningau to the committee, write formally,” Rashid said.

To this, Chan said that he had already sent a letter for further actions.

There was an uproar on Tuesday (November 24) when several MPs questioned Kitingan’s presence in the House, as he had recently returned to Sabah.

Dewan Rakyat’s spokesman, Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun, said he was made to understand that Kitingan had begun his quarantine on November 12 and received his release order from the Health Ministry on Monday (November 23).

Later, several MPs interrupted and said that the number of days of quarantine was less than required.

To this, Azhar then said that he needed time to consult with the health authorities since the ruling was made based on the information he was given.

Later that day, Kitingan said that health officials had authorized him to attend Parliament on Tuesday.

“I went to the health office and they gave me the quarantine release order. They cut off my quarantine bracelet.

“It is not true that I did not observe the quarantine. They (Opposition) only messed up (bother me), ”Sabah’s chief deputy minister said when contacted.

Kitingan, who is also president of Sabah STAR, had provided, via WhatsApp, a copy of the Ministry of Health’s quarantine release order that was issued on November 23, two days before the end of the 14-day quarantine. required.

He was under mandatory Covid-19 home quarantine from November 12-25, but the order to release him was issued after health officials declared his health condition satisfactory.
