KOTA KINABALU: A Sabah minister has hinted that there will be further relaxation of restrictions under the motion control order which is likely to be announced on Tuesday (February 9) before the Chinese New Year.
Sabah’s Minister of Housing and Local Government and state Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Masidi Manjun said the Federal Government was expected to make an announcement soon.
“I just attended a National Security Council (NSC) meeting on Covid-19, I think there will be good news. I don’t want to say anything, as it will be announced by the Federal Government,” he told reporters in the state Covid report. -19 on Monday (February 8).
“All I want to say is that as we celebrate the Chinese New Year, we must do so responsibly. Enjoy but be responsible,” he said.
It was understood that some businesses, including dining rooms, are currently not allowed under the MCO.
“There will be many more announcements that will make people happy,” Masidi said, alluding to the relaxations.
“With more new relaxations to come, I urge people to adhere to standard operating procedures,” he added.
On the Covid-19 cases, Masidi said that Sabah’s figures were stabilizing over the last week.
“We have to maintain a strict observation of standard operating procedures and ensure that efforts to reduce cases continue,” he said as Sabah recorded 169 cases on Monday.
Masidi also said there were no more backlogs in pending Covid-19 test results.
As such, he said that everyone had a duty to be responsible for ensuring that Covid-19 cases continue to decline in the state simply by strictly following the SOPs.
Sabah, which was the epicenter of Malaysia’s third wave of Covid-19 after the state elections on September 26, had remained under the conditional MCO until December, when cases increased.
The situation improved slightly in late December, but increased again in January after the end of the year holidays that saw the state undergo MCO.
