KOTA KINABALU: The new Sabah government held its first cabinet meeting with just six state leaders, including Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Various topics, including Covid-19, were discussed at the more than two-hour meeting chaired by Hajiji yesterday. All six belong to an 11-member state cabinet. Five positions remain vacant.

A press conference scheduled to take place after the cabinet meeting was canceled at the last minute for undeclared reasons.

“To deal with the Covid-19 pandemic in Sabah, the state government has decided to allocate RM50 thousand – and of that, RM10 thousand will be used for food supply – for people in the four most affected districts,” Hajiji said in a communicated after the meeting.

The districts are Tawau, Lahad Datu, Semporna and Kunak.

He said that all issues related to Covid-19 would now be handled by a state Covid-19 disaster management committee.

Hajiji said the committee would be chaired by the secretary of state, while the director of the Sabah Health Department, Datuk Dr. Christina Rundi, would be the vice chair.

A previous committee, the Sabah Covid-19 Command Center run by the previous Warisan-led state government, will be abolished with immediate effect.

Also present were the three Senior Vice Ministers: Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, Minister of Public Works, Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, who is also Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, and Datuk Dr. Joachim Gunsalam, Minister of Commerce and Industry.

Also present were Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, the Minister of Housing and Local Government, Second Minister of Finance and Minister of Rural Development, Datuk Jahid Jahim.
