KOTA KINABALU: A department head of the state government, who was arrested yesterday for allegedly soliciting bribes in the form of sexual services from a woman, has been immediately replaced while awaiting further action from the authorities.

Sabah Secretary of State Datuk Safar Untong said today in a statement that the state government takes these matters very seriously and places great emphasis on the integrity and conduct of the state’s public officials, as set out in the Regulations of Sabah state civil servants from 2008.

As such, he said appropriate legal action would be taken immediately against the officer involved.

“The Sabah Public Services Department will provide its full cooperation to the Sabah MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) in its investigation.

“The state government is very committed to addressing these issues to enhance public confidence in the integrity of its public officials and the transparency of the department’s service delivery,” he said.

Sabah MACC Director S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest of a state government department head on suspicion of soliciting bribes in the form of sexual services from a woman to support his loan application in the agricultural sector. Called
