COVID-19 | Sabah has closed its borders to non-Sabahans, except for those who provide essential services, students, and public officials to stop the spread of Covid-19.

Also, no one currently in Sabah will be allowed to leave the state unless it is for emergencies or official duties and this also only with the permission of the Ministry of Health.

The new rules, announced today by Chief Minister (Security Group) Ismail Sabri Yaakob, will go into effect tomorrow and expire on October 20.

The only authorized people in Sabah now are Malaysians with the code “H” at the bottom right of their MyKads.

Foreigners with MyPR cards with the code “H” and those with an entry permit card or endorsement permit in their passports will also be able to enter.

Those providing essential services, public officials and students can also enter with valid documents.

Others wishing to enter Sabah must request permission from the Sabah Office of Internal Affairs and Investigation.

Those who need further clarification should contact the Sabah Disaster Management Operations Center at 088-369434.

As of noon yesterday, Sabah was the state with the highest number of active Covid-19 cases with 1,334, or just over half of the total 2,336 active cases in the country.

Four districts, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Semporna and Lahad Datu, currently have active triple-digit cases.

Residents in these four districts, along with those in Putatan, Penampang and Kunak, are under strict stay-at-home orders and most businesses are ordered to close except for those providing essential services.

An interdistrict travel ban has been imposed in the state’s remaining 19 districts.
