KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has approved a RM160 thousand Bantuan Cihatin Covid-19 fund to help all levels of society affected by the pandemic, says Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

The Chief Minister said this is in addition to the RM 50,000 approved by the state government earlier this month.

He said the funds will be disbursed through various ministries in the form of cash aid.

“It will benefit those in the agriculture, tourism and transportation sectors, as well as street vendors, orphans and single mothers, among others,” he said after chairing the weekly state cabinet meeting here on Wednesday (October 28).

Of this amount, RM1 thousand will be channeled through universities to help students in higher education institutes, Hajiji said.

Apart from that, he also announced the establishment of the Sabah Economic Council to discuss the way forward for the economic recovery of the state.

He said the council’s membership would be announced soon and will be made up of captains from industry, entrepreneurs, NGOs and academics.
