KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s rubber glove exports grew 50.1 percent to RM 15.06 billion for the period January-July 2020 from RM 10.03 billion in the same period last year, the Ministry of Commerce said International and Industry.

Vice Minister Senator Datuk Lim Ban Hong said the growth was driven by higher demand and government efforts to help the rubber glove industry.

“Global demand for rubber gloves is estimated to be 330 billion units by 2020, and Malaysia’s production for the export market is estimated at 220 billion units, which is 67 percent of the global demand. World Market.

He said this in response to a question from Senator Idris Ahmad (PAS) about the government’s efforts and actions taken to seize the opportunities presented by the burgeoning rubber glove manufacturing and production industry since the Covid-19 outbreak.

Lim said the government has encouraged players in the rubber glove industry to reinvest or make additional investments to take advantage of opportunities.

“Within the framework of the National Economic Recovery Plan (Penjana), the government has introduced the Special Reinvestment Subsidy Incentive Plan (Special RA) that aims to encourage reinvestment and additional investments.

“The scheme is applicable for the evaluation years 2020-2022,” he said.

In addition, he said that the government is also encouraging the incorporation of automation and high technology in the manufacturing sector, including the rubber glove industry, by offering the capital allocation incentive for automation for the labor-intensive manufacturing sector.

“Considering that the rubber glove industry has grown exponentially since the Covid-19 outbreak and there is a need to establish factories at a faster rate, the government through Penjana has introduced an initiative in which companies they can get manufacturer’s license approval within 48 hours. apply online through the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) electronic manufacturing licensing platform, ”Lim said.

He said the government has also established the Project Coordination and Acceleration Unit (PACU) under MIDA to offer comprehensive facilitation and ensure the smooth implementation of approved projects.

Lim said MITI through its agency, the Malaysia Foreign Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), has assisted local businesses, including rubber glove manufacturing companies, through virtual business matchmaking sessions between Malaysian exporters and foreign buyers.

MATRADE also welcomes the virtual participation of Malaysian companies in the MyAPEC 2020 exhibition from September 1 to December 31, 2020 which gives them the opportunity to present their business to foreign buyers.

Furthermore, MATRADE is also hosting the Hybrid eNational Export Day from September 8-10, 2020 to discuss business opportunities arising from the Covid-19 crisis.
