PETALING JAYA: Violations of standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the Recovery Motion Control Order (RMCO) continue unabated.
Another 584 people were arrested today for not wearing a mask and ignoring the need for social distancing.
The hunger for another round of drinks brought 292 people into the arms of the law to sponsor pubs and nightclubs.
The companies were equally guilty. Six operators were picked up for keeping their facilities open to customers beyond the mandatory closing time.
In a statement released today, Chief Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix) said that 568 of those arrested received compounds and the remaining 16 were placed in preventive detention.
Apart from that, 65 foreigners who did not have the proper documents were arrested under Ops Benteng.
Among them were three suspected smugglers and three captains.
Twenty-seven of them were arrested in Johor for attempting to leave the country illegally.
In Kelantan, a local man was reprimanded for participating in smuggling activities.
The arrests were made at 81 roadblocks set up by the police.
Ismail Sabri said that during the operation, 12,227 people from 2,713 task force teams inspected a total of 57,117 locations across the country.
The inspections were carried out in 3,838 supermarkets, 5,022 restaurants, 1,363 street vending centers, 1,029 factories, 3,541 banks and 3,541 government offices.
The teams also monitored 1,052 land, 205 maritime and 88 air transport terminals.
So far, 29,748 returnees from abroad have been accommodated in 73 hotels and eight other locations. Of the total, 9,517 people have been quarantined, 71 have been sent to hospitals for treatment, and 20,160 people were able to return home.
Ismail Sabri also said that law enforcement officials from the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Affairs had overseen the supply of 12 types of commodities at 708 stores, including 506 retailers, 172 wholesalers and 30 manufacturers.
“The supply of essential goods is sufficient to meet the needs of the country,” he said.
