A very high number of cases are still reported, especially among foreign workers, says Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

PETALING JAYA: Restrictions on public activities under the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) will run until March 31 this year, Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

The RMCO was scheduled to end yesterday.

Ismail said this is due to the high number of active cases, especially among foreign workers.

He said that more foreign worker shelters in Johor would come under the enhanced movement control (EMCO) order after a series of cases there.

Westlite workers’ dormitories 1 and 2 in Senai, Johor, will be the first, from tomorrow until January 15.

The closure will involve two shelter blocks, consisting of 444 residents, all foreign workers.

Kejora Juara’s workers dormitory, in Bukit Pasir, Muar, will be the second, with 212 positive cases of Covid-19 registered there.

The EMCO will affect 1,828 foreign workers.

Meanwhile, the EMCO at Apartment Ria, Bentong, will end today.

On everyday crimes, Ismail said the police yesterday arrested 347 people for crimes related to movement control.

It said 337 received compound fines, while the remaining 10 were detained.

The crimes included participating in activities in entertainment centers, not wearing face masks, and failing to provide contact tracing or recording materials.

A total of 2,397 compliance task forces were deployed to carry out checks in supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories and banks.

Ismail also said that police captured 31 illegal immigrants and seized five vehicles under Op Benteng.

It added that 95,466 people had come through KLIA from July 24 to December 31 from various countries.

A total of 540 people were sent to the hospital for treatment, while 87,486 were able to return home and 7,440 people are currently in mandatory quarantine.
