JOHOR BARU: Police seized drugs and vehicles worth more than RM2.7 thousand during a raid and arrested six men related to a drug union called “Rose Quartz”.

Johor Police Chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the suspects were arrested in six different locations around Johor Baru on September 10 (Thursday) by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) .

“All of the suspects are between 39 and 57 years old. The raid was carried out after a two-month surveillance.

“During the raid, the team seized 39.3 kg of syabu, 74.9 g of ketamine and 20.9 g of ecstasy worth RM 1.5 thousand. We have also confiscated seven vehicles, personal belongings, RM172,051 cash and Thai baht ฿ 13,000 (RM1,726), all worth RM1.1 thousand, ”he said.

He said this during a press conference at Johor police headquarters here on Saturday (September 12).

He added that the police also confiscated a medicine packaging machine and a compressed air pistol.

“The union’s modus operandi was to get the drug supply, which we believe they got from Thailand, Kedah and Penang, and take it to Johor for packaging.

“It would then be shipped in parcels, either by air or by sea, to smuggle into Sarawak and the international market,” he said, adding that the union that had been active for the past three months had been totally eradicated.

Comm Ayob also said investigations also revealed that two of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and ketamine, while three others had criminal and drug-related criminal records.

All of the suspects are currently in preventive detention for six days from September 11 to September 16.

The case is investigated under Section 39B and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952 for trafficking and administration of drugs into their bodies and Section 8 (a) of the Weapons Act of 1960 for illegal possession of firearms.
