PETALING JAYA: Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz said the government has spent more than RM1.7 billion on fighting Covid-19 since February.
Channeled through 14 ministries and state governments, this sum includes RM1 billion for the Ministry of Health, RM250 million for the National Agency for Disaster Management (Nadma), and RM247 million for the Ministry of the Interior.
In a statement today, Tengku Zafrul said that the Ministry of Health funneled another 44 million ringgit to Sabah due to the increase in cases in the state, and that the money was used to provide personal protective equipment (PPE), medical supplies and equipment such as beds, breathing. supports and fans.
“The government will not hesitate to increase the financial allocation if necessary, especially to meet the needs of front-line or front-line employees,” he said.
He said that the government, through the National Security Council (MKN), had also recently approved an additional allocation of Ringgit 50 million to Nadma to support her efforts to stop the spread of the pandemic.
“The government is also very moved by the public’s donations in the form of cash, food, and health equipment intended to aid the country’s fight against Covid-19,” said Tengku Zafrul, referring to the Covid-19 fund of the Ministry of Salud, which was reactivated on October 16 at the request of various parties after the recent increase in cases.
The minister said that the government has received a total of 44.7 million ringgit in the form of donations from individuals, businesses and various organizations through the fund, and that to date 33.1 million ringgit have been used for the purchase. of PPE and medical equipment.
Urging all parties to work together to deal with fake news giving the public the wrong impression about the pandemic, Tengku Zafrul said the country should focus on protecting lives and ensuring the survival of businesses.
