RM1.17 Billion Spent to Handle Covid-19 – MOH

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Health (MOH) had spent RM1.17 billion as of Oct. 31 to handle the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, Dewan Rakyat was told.

Deputy Minister of Health II Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said he understood the RM1 billion allocation approved by the Ministry of Finance and other existing allocations for the purchase of equipment, medical supplies, consumables, personal protective equipment (PPE), reagents and kits. testing, as well as other services needed to slow the spread of the pandemic.

“The allowance was spent on all health facilities of the Ministry of Health, including hospitals, health clinics and dental clinics,” he said in response to Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli (PAS-Dungun) during question time.

Wan Hassan had wanted to know the amount of money spent by the Ministry of Health to handle Covid-19 between March 18 and October 31.

Aaron said that most of the money was spent to pay for the special Covid-19 allocation to front-line members of the Ministry of Health in the amount of RM275 million, purchase of PPE (RM262 million), purchase of reagents and kits of testing as well as outsourcing the payment of private laboratory services for Covid 19 screening test (RM210 million).

He said the spending did not include the emolument for health workers involved in the treatment, control and prevention of Covid-19, which was included in the existing allocation for the Ministry of Health. – Called
