KOTA KINABALU: An additional allocation of RM50 million in the 2021 Budget to combat Covid-19 in Sabah could improve the ability of leaders to combat the pandemic, says Sabah Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Masidi Manjun.
Masidi, who is also the official spokesperson for the Sabah state government on Covid-19, said that the allocation of RM 50 million could be used to cover various types of expenses, including logistics and the purchase of food and medical equipment.
“We are grateful for this assignment, we really need more assignment to deal with Covid-19 in Sabah. Of course, some of our tasks will be easier and easier.
“The onboarding will make a good impact and make those on the front lines happy when we have a greater capacity to help the people of Sabah affected by Covid-19,” he said during a press conference here last night.
The Dewan Rakyat yesterday passed the Supply Bill 2021 (Budget 2021) at the policy level. Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, in his liquidation speech, announced an additional allocation of RM 50 million to help the front line cope with the Covid-19 pandemic in Sabah.
Meanwhile, he said that as of yesterday, 25 groups of Covid-19 in the peninsula, Sarawak and Labuan were discovered to have been caused by infections in Sabah.
“To date, a total of 84 Covid-19 conglomerates have been registered in Sabah, and of this total, 63 conglomerates are still active, while 21 conglomerates have terminated,” he said.
He said that a total of 734 healthcare workers in Sabah had tested positive for Covid-19 to date, of which 666 had recovered.Called
